Movesy

Movesy is a side project from RentSpree’s Event ‘HackSpree’. It’s a roommate finder & match maker application. The goal is to match roommates who share the same value of living together.

Most of the time, the ideal place is out of reach or too expensive. If you want it so bad, the best way to get it is to find someone to share it with. Some renters would look for roommate(s) to share the space with. With this solution, it’d save them bunch of rental fees and give them more sustainable living day by day.

However, finding perfect roommate is like look for a needle in a haystack. It’s very rare to find a right one to live together throughout the lease.

Goal

  • Get roommates with the same value to match

  • Able to be the tool that user can validate and match the roommate at a fast glimpse

  • 5 days (to pitch in the last day of the week for 6 mins)

ICYMI : HackSpree is the sub-event within RentSpree where they allow employees to spin off to do other side projects with new teammates (apart from routine primary day-to-day work team) for a week and pitch to stakeholders. Similarly to Shark Tank, the project is aim to let employees work on other field they’re interested in while also conduct a new product line.

MOVESY is a case study project only.

Before we go through the business scope, we planned and conducted user interview with other colleagues who had direct experience in finding and living with rommates in the US.

From the interview, we breakdown the problems into two factors:

  1. Finding a right roommate

    1. Share the same value & prospective

      1. Location

      2. Goal (what are they looking for)

    2. Daily routine

    3. Lifestyle

  2. Living together

    1. Communication

    2. Agreements

      1. Rental payment

      2. Responsibility

We create a user personas (2 in total) from the interviews as follow:

After finished off user persona, we dig down into problems and grouped them. We then work on How Might We workshop together to find the alternative solutions from idea tank.

We voted for the top HMW that we would like to proceed and work on another solution generating workshops. We decided to go with traditional HMW continuous solution space and Crazy-8 methodology.

  • Together as a team, we created a business canvas to try to scope of what we would like Movesy to achieve.

  • We also did the competitor research. That had been helping us defining our unique selling points.

Business goal

  • To get roommates match together in a meaningful relationship

  • Able to generate revenue consistently

After deciding on the middle ground for development and problems along with solutions. We scoped at what we should focus by using the chart that would help us define “Impact vs. Effort”.

SOLUTION

‘MOVESY’ is the product that will help renters find each other fast and right. We aim to connect users who share same goals, values and prospectives in living together. Using machine learning, we could target and suggest the right one to each other based on their interest, lifestyle questions and basic along with in-depth daily routine.

define scope and requirement

We later on listed our key focuses that we wanna achieve in MOVESY:

  • Ability to match people on the right need of each other considering:

    • Values : Why would they want a roommate

    • Location : Where they want to live

    • Daily routines : How they live their lives

      • Responsibility = How they handles problems in real life e.g. hair in the shower

    • Interests : The things they like

    • The things they hate

      • We found a research and from interview that, people are easily aligned when they have hates in common e.g. insects, loud noises

  • Ability to make two (or more) people communicate with each other the most so that they will always be on the same page

    • Provide solution since the beginning e.g. meet-ups

  • Using help of technology to improve the experience

    • Machine Learning (ML)

We’re also focus on pitching, which it will make our product stands out in the competition. Mainly we decided to:

  • Add interactive gimmick of user experience

    • Swipes

    • Like & Dislike

  • Machine Learning suggestions

  • Great storytelling

We then managed to finalise UI together, each of us working on each different flows. Then we combined them together. The last step was that we rechecked all the joints between each flows to create a seamless experience.

 

THE FINAL PRODUCT

Finally, we finished our mock-up in time and our demo version only at the critical features.

As MOVESY developed, we included our branding, images and look-and-feel to the product.
